The release coincides with the MTV debut of the session which will air later this spring. The album will be available as a standard CD and two CD/DVD deluxe edition. This marks a landmark milestone for FLORENCE + THE MACHINE. Not only is she continuing a tradition popularized by legends including Paul McCartney, Nirvana, Bob Dylan, Alicia Keys, Lauryn Hill and Oasis, she's bringing listeners even closer to her rapturous sound in an acoustic setting. This special night was recorded in New York, NY and is the latest chapter in the iconic MTV Unplugged series created by Robert Small and Jim Burns. The set list boasts favorites from both of her Universal Republic Records releases--her gold-selling debut Lungs and its critically acclaimed follow-up 2011's Ceremonials. There's a hypnotic rendition of her breakout double platinum single "Dog Days Are Over" as well as a chillingly beautiful cover of Johnny Cash and June Carter's "Jackson" featuring Queens of the Stone Age and Them Crooked Vultures singer Josh Homme. In addition, she gives a wonderful take on Otis Redding's "Try a Little Tenderness" for this performance. The show's intimate audience even included Kanye West and Q-Tip. With three of her band members in the fold and a ten-piece New York Gospel choir, it was an utterly majestic evening for FLORENCE + THE MACHINE. The accolades haven't stopped for her either. At the 2012 NME Awards, she was crowned "Best Solo Artist" and her most recent single, "Shake It Out", was named "Best Track". She's also gearing up for a very special set at this year's Coachella Festival April 13-15 and April 20-22, which will be streamed live. High On Fires new album, De Vermis Mysteriis. Produced by Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou at God City Studios in Salem, MA, the record marks the next devastating chapter in High On Fires gloriously unhinged metal saga. I think its kind of a cross between the experimentation of Death Is This Communion and the driving darkness of Blessed Black Wings. There is plenty of thrashy stuff, but there is also a lot of Sabbathy doom-type stuff. Matt Pike enthuses.
We didn t try to plan it all out this time, he adds. We kind of waited til we were on the spot and had to do something. We had the basic skeletons of the songs we were prepared but there was a lot of improvisation. There s a lot of soul on this one, and it s got a rollercoaster kind of feel.
The album s title (translation: The Mysteries of the Worm, ) is a nod to a fictional grimoire conceived by the late, great Psycho author Robert Bloch in 1935 and later incorporated into horror master H.P. Lovecraft s renowned Cthulu Mythos. Its a concept record, a little bit, Pike offers. I got this idea about Jesus Christ and the Immaculate Conception: What if Jesus had a twin who died at birth to give Jesus his life? And then what if the twin became a time traveler right then? He lives his life only going forward until he finds this scroll from an ancient Chinese alchemist who derived a serum out of the black lotus which is actually in Robert E. Howards Conan stories and then he starts traveling back in time. He can see the past through his ancestors eyes, but his enemies can kill him if they kill the ancestor that he is seeing through at the time. Basically, he keeps waking up in other peoples bodies at bad times. It s kinda like that old TV show Quantum Leap. Kurt actually pointed that out to me after I told him the idea. But whatever time travel is a killer concept.
The album, consisting of 12 stunning tracks, was made with 18 musicians and recorded in eight different studios in Portland, Omaha, New York City, Los Angeles, Austin and Bristol (UK). Ward s honey-soaked vocals, deft finger-picking, innate sense of melody and beguiling lyrics have already cemented his reputation as one of America s true musical treasures and A Wasteland Companion features some of the finest songwriting and most striking delivery of his career. This album was really the first time that I took the creative process entirely in my own hands. I had formed a new band, The Triple Crown, after reuniting with an old friend Erik Deutsch, who plays keys in the band, and went into the studio, producing the album myself. We spent a month in the Magic Shop in Soho and came out with what I think is my most country record to date. The first single from the album The Deed and The Dollar was released on iTunes on December 20th, 2011 and is considered by Shooter to be the perfect love song. Shooter relies heavily on his own experiences throughout the album and as a result many of the songs are very autobiographical in nature, whether he's addressing critics on The Family Tree; paying tribute to his roots on the hard-rocking Southern Family Anthem; (We may be trash, but we're a family, he sings), or diving into deeply personal territory with heartfelt ballads like Daddy's Hands, a song which was inspired by an illness in his family last year.

The Mars Volta returns in epic and unexpected fashion with its sixth album, Noctourniquet.
While Noctourniquet was, in typical Mars Volta fashion, written by Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler-Zavala and produced by Rodriguez-Lopez, the 13-track album explores musical territories previously uncharted in the duo's 20 or so years of creating music together. The spectrum of musical and emotional textures conceived and created by Rodriguez-Lopez on Noctourniquet ranges from the opening bombast of "The Whip Hand" to the menacing crawl of "The Malkin Jewel" punctuated throughout by hypnotic melodies and borderline electro-ambient washes, most notably in the epic "In Absentia. "
The bold diversity of the new material combined with Rodriguez-Lopez's assured producer's hand guiding The Mars Volta's most confident and refined performances to date make Noctourniquet an early contender for this year's most challenging and rewarding listen. As with previous Mars Volta efforts, Bixler-Zavala's lyrics trace a narrative journey with a defined protagonist, this time inspired by disparate elements including '80s UK alt-rockers The Godfathers, Superman comic nemesis Solomon Grundy and the Greek myth of Hyacinthus.

Port of Morrow, the fourth album from The Shins, was recorded in Los Angeles and Portland over the course of 2011 with James Mercer as usual handling all songwriting duties, lead vocals and the majority of instrumentation. The record was produced by Greg Kurstin and mixed by Rich Costey. The cover art was created by Jacob Escobedo.

The Magnetic Fields return to the signature mix of synth and acoustic sounds they established in the 90s with Merge releases such as The Charm of the Highway Strip and Get Lost. Stephin Merritt has come back to synths with a fresh approach: "Most of the synthesizers on the record didn't exist when we were last using synthesizers," he notes. The songs none over three minutes long were recorded in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York with Merritt's usual cast of collaborators: Claudia Gonson, Sam Davol, John Woo, Shirley Simms, Johny Blood and Daniel Handler.
